American Kenpo is a highly sophisticated Martial Art and is probably the most practical of styles as it is to do with current street fighting. It is based on a rapid succession of strikes in sequential flow, which involves taking advantage of every conceivable natural weapon during the execution of a technique and Directional Harmony whereby all our action moves in the same direction thus re-inforcing the deliver of our strikes.

American Kenpo was developed by the late Master Ed Parker who took the more traditional Chinese Kenpo as taught to him by the late William K S Chow and modified it to suit the modern day needs. It is based on geometry and physics and not just history and tradition. Its arsenal of self defence techniques are the most practical techniques available in martial arts training.

A Kenpo students training proceeds in distinct stages. There are three main stages of learning. First there is the embryonic stage which entails pronunciation of movement, whereby the student learns to perform fast manoeuvres, stances block/strikes, strikes, parries and kicks.

Then comes the mechanical stage, which is the definition of movement. At this stage the student learns to put the basics together into Kenpo self defence techniques, forms and sets thus learning to move with efficiency.

The final stage is the spontaneous stage whereby random application of motion blends with any given situation. This is the NO MIND stage where our subconscious takes over and directs our body to counter any attack with great efficiency.
